Checkout Experience, Transaction Flow & Conversion Optimization

Website Integrity | User Experience | Checkout Optimization | Conversion Analysis

This project focused on evaluating the checkout experience of Tee’s Shirts, an online retail store experiencing high cart abandonment rates during the purchasing process.

The evaluation examined customer interactions across key checkout stages, including account access, personal information collection, shipping selection, and payment completion. The goal was to identify friction points that negatively affected customer experience and conversion performance.

Project Objective

The objective of this project was to analyze the existing checkout workflow, identify factors contributing to customer abandonment, and recommend practical improvements that support a smoother and more reliable purchasing experience.

Checkout Evaluation Findings

The review identified several usability and trust-related challenges throughout the checkout process. Customers encountered friction during account creation, excessive form completion requirements, shipping cost visibility, and payment option selection.

These issues created barriers that increased abandonment risk and reduced overall conversion opportunities.

Optimization Recommendations

1. Improve Account Access Experience

Introducing guest checkout functionality and social sign-in options can reduce friction while maintaining customer convenience. Clearly communicating the benefits of account creation can also encourage voluntary registration.

2. Simplify Personal Information Collection

Limiting data collection to essential fields and implementing auto-fill capabilities can reduce effort, improve usability, and increase completion rates.

3. Enhance Shipping Transparency

Displaying shipping costs earlier in the process, offering free-shipping incentives, and providing clearer delivery estimates can improve customer confidence and reduce abandonment.

4. Strengthen Payment Confidence

Expanding payment options and displaying visible trust indicators such as SSL/TLS security assurances can help improve customer confidence during transactions.

Project Impact

The evaluation highlighted opportunities to improve checkout reliability, reduce friction, increase customer trust, and create a more streamlined purchasing experience.

The recommendations support stronger transaction completion rates while improving overall website usability and customer satisfaction.
